During my career spread over 32 years, I have come across this debate quite often. Definition of word “Professional” has also undergone a sea change. There are conflicts & contradictions in thoughts of various senior managers in practically all around the world. One Manager feels pride in sacking the whole Team as it was not performing. Another Manager feels pride in organizing a seminar to coach Team to perform better but gets sacked himself as his Team was not performing. So this is the real irony of the situation. However only those organizations survive in the long run which have a long term vision. To live purely in today has to be avoided. By this way you can survive but not flourish. Coaching, Training is job of each Manager & duty of the organization. Employees respect & value only those organizations & bosses who add value to their lives. Organizations which live only for today are treated as stop gap arrangement by employees too. If employer is smart, so are the employees.
Organizations & Managers need to move forward from coaching & training. Now is the time of Mentoring. Managers, please produce more managers. Your life shall be full of energy, passion & freshness & success.
